KUNDALINI SYMBOLS

Rebis

Symbol for:
the merger of the polar energies, inner oneness / the sacred marriage (2=1)

Alchemy

The WATER BASIN and the TOWER symbolize the kundalini in the pelvis and spine. The red robe in the foreground belongs to the alchemist who completed the MAGNUM OPUS. (Les Métamorphoses, 1480)

Left: The REBIS, or Hermaphrodite, represents the consummated SACRED MARRIAGE (click here): the male and female energies (the polar energies) have merged. This transformation process is a result of a completed kundalini process: the KUNDALINI SERPENT is raised to the HEAD. The lower, animal nature has been conquered (GREEN LION, and standing on SERPENT). A ‘CHAKRA TREE’ is standing on the left of the rebis. The colors BLACK, WHITE, YELLOW AND RED of the clothing are a reference to the four phases of the MAGNUM OPUS (click here) of the alchemist. This process of rebirth is difficult and painful (PELICAN feeding its young with its own blood). (De alchimia opuscula complura veterum philosophorum 1550)

The REBIS, or Hermaphrodite, is purified by the KUNDALINI FIRE. Top right the conjunction of the SUN and MOON (duality: 2=1). (Emblem 33 from Mysteria atalante fugitive)

Next to the rebis, lying on the ground, stands the god MERCURIUS with his CADUCEUS (click here): the serpent staff, which is the universal symbol for a kundalini awakening. (Mylius version of ‘Rosarium’ series)

The male side of the rebis holds a MIRROR, a reference to the ‘KNOW YOURSELF’, while the female side holds the ‘PHILOSOPHICAL EGG’. The frame of the mirror is GOLD and SILVER: the polar energies in alchemy. The colors BLACK, WHITE, YELLOW AND RED are a reference to the four phases of the MAGNUM OPUS (click here). (Splendor Solis)

The fusion of the POLARITIES can also be expressed in other ways. Above, the merger of HEAVEN (the PRIEST) and EARTH (the KING). (Solidonius Philosophus, Nicolas Barnaud, circa 1710)

Throughout the ages there have always been initiates, artists and mystics who knew that Jesus was not born as ‘the Son of God’, but had experienced a kundalini awakening, after which he was one with his Divine Father. The Gospel writers have hidden this spiritual truth in their texts in inventive ways, including the use of imagery and wordplay (see my books). Because of the rigid attitude of the church, the truth could not be spoken aloud, but underground, through esoteric groups such as the Freemasons, it found its way onto the canvas.

THE SIGN OF THE SACRED MARRIAGE (two fingers together: 2=1) is incorporated in many paintings, in one form or another, often in combination with other esoteric symbolism. This hand gesture refers to a fusion of the polar energies/duality, and with this to a process of kundalini awakening.
