Throughout the ages there have always been initiates, artists and mystics who knew that Jesus was not born as ‘the Son of God’, but had experienced a kundalini awakening, after which he was one with his Divine Father. The Gospel writers have hidden this spiritual truth in their texts in inventive ways, including the use of symbolism and wordplay (see my books). Because of the rigid attitude of the church, the truth could not be spoken aloud, but underground, through esoteric groups such as the Freemasons, it found its way onto the canvas.

A tree is a universal symbol for the awakened kundalini. The FIG TREE has a special status among the trees in kundalini symbolism. Not only in the Bible, but also in, for example, Buddhism, Hinduism and ancient Egypt.

In the book of Genesis, in the center of the Garden of Eden is the Tree of Life with fruits that give eternal life. The Bible says nothing further about the tree species, but in the esoteric traditions the Biblical Tree of Life is associated with the olive tree and the FIG TREE.

In the New Testament we read in parables of Jesus about trees that bear fruit or not. And about the Kingdom of God, which according to him we should see as a mustard seed that grows into a large tree. In the Gospel of Luke (19:1-6) Zacchaeus, whose name means pure, climbs a FIG TREE to see Jesus (read: God).

In the Gospel of Matthew (24:32) Jesus says about the end of the world (read: the birth of God in man/the end of the ego): “Learn from the FIG TREE this parable: when its branch is already tender and the leaves sprout, then do you know that summer is near.” In art, the FIG TREE as a (hidden) esoteric symbol is easily recognizable by its leaves.

THE SIGN OF THE SACRED MARRIAGE (two fingers together: 2=1) is incorporated in many paintings, in one form or another, often in combination with other esoteric symbolism. This hand gesture refers to a fusion of the polar energies/duality, and with this to a process of kundalini awakening.
